Mohtarma Bhutto

A tribute to Rose Face

Karachi prepared for weeks to welcome their queen, one female supporter was asked by a TV reporter as to why was she happy, she said: “hamari leader aarahi hai, hamari Rani aa rahi hai”

I was excited because after coming to Pakistan living 25 years abroad, it was my first opportunity to see the possibility of her ruling this country. The previous two times that she was the country’s Prime Minister, I was living in England and US respectively. She personally replied to the e-card I sent her from Boston Massachusetts, USA in 2000 thanking me for sending it. She used to like Brigham’s Pepperming Stick ice cream when she lived in Boston during her university days, although I never liked this flavor but it did bring a smile to my face every time I saw it on the shelves in the supermarket. I used the same underground train stations (subway) as she did; it was a sense of pride for me.

After her, the whole planet saw the deluge that drowned her enemies. The victory is always on the side of truth and right is always might.  As for death, it is something every born soul will taste. She was the jewel that will glitter forever. Initially it used to feel that it was just a joke and she was still alive. Every woman in Sindh now feels like changing her name to Benazir. Some life long supporters of Mohtarma Bhutto in Karachi have actually changed their little daughters’ names to Benazir to honor her memory.

The murders couldn’t stand the sea of people thronging to Karachi dancing on the tune of “dilaan teer bija” a song meaning “arrows will pierce the hearts of your enemies” as the reception’s theme. So they decided to eliminate the princess who ruled the hearts of her people, whose million mega watt smile used to light up the country. But they ended up eliminating themselves from the assemblies! People have used the arrow to pierce the hearts of the enemies in the elections to show the corrupt, alcohol sipping ‘leaders’ that they are no longer in charge.

If you kill your brain, the body can’t run on its own. The fools have killed the brain and people rightly became mad. Some went and ignited themselves like the  25 year old man who set himself on fire in Sakrand town district Nawab Shah after hearing about this cowardly act, they must not do this, nor should they wail loudly, but give charity in her name, angels come bearing gifts to the deceased when one gives charity in their name. Read the Quran for her regularly.

One shouldn’t be despondent of God’s mercy, He is the King of Kings, and to Him belongs whatsoever is in heaven and the earth so lets turn to him to get us out of this mess that the characters sitting in Islamabad have put the country into.

Foremost, omniscient and supreme is world's Lord,
Of His own might in existence since aeons old,
Mighty Creator, Merciful, Sustainer, One and Only,
His praises sing, He planned and perfected the universe.

[Hadrat Shah Abdul Latif ]

Sindhis as a people are not materialistic; they don’t understand why was this act committed in the first place. They are taught differently, they are soft spoken; eat food that is mild, not laced with chillis, although Sindh’s town of Kunri (Umer Kot district) happens to be the largest red chilli market in Asia.

Their upbringing is different from others. Hence even if they see someone with large house nearby and him or her driving a big car (gotten with own his/her money or inappropriately acquired wealth), they don't seem to have a wish to copy that and buy a large house with a huge car or cars, they are happy the way they are.
The Western culture as well as other cultures in Pakistan look down upon this as being a 'primitive' way of life hence NOT WORTHY OF RESPECT. This is something the masses of Sindh still don't understand i.e. to be called a 'big' man you need to have a large house and cars and your kids need to go to study in schools with O and A levels and then abroad to the UK or USA.
Sindhis see poverty on TV and are not as affected by it, the same way as someone in the non sindhi world might be. They look down upon those who show off their houses and cars. They will only respect you if you treat them with respect, no matter how humble they are in their dwellings. An angrez would not even enter a house that has below standard building or furnishing, a Sindhi would! In the western world, they openly make fun of the poor to their faces, they think of agriculture the lowest of professions, and jobs and business as being higher quality, in actual fact they won't be able to eat if it wasn't for the so called primitive folks who plant the food on their plate. This behavior is something a Sindhi finds taboo. In Sindh the saying is:

Uttam Kheti wadhadanr vapaar, neech nokri.

Noble laureate in Economics Dr. Amartya Sen of world’s top science based university known as MIT has come out and said that the NASA scientist won't be able to plant the food that a farmer does with precision, and if you ask a NASA scientist to do so, you will starve to death. His motto: 'everyone is educated, not everyone may be schooled.' Basically show respect to all. Every one knows something that others don't. Therefore everyone should be respected on Earth without looking at the depth of his or her pockets.

Want to share some wisdom of the Native American nation (Red Indian) called Shawnee; here are some of the words spoken by Shawnee chief Tecumseh:

"So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide. Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and grovel to none. When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself. Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision. When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home."

In the end it should suffice to say that whoever killed Madam Bhutto was a racist with a small mind. She was an asset to not only
Pakistan but the planet; we don't get leaders like her being born everyday. I hope she is now at peace enjoying the luxuries of paradise, the Gardens, gold and diamond bracelets, shoes, iridescent clothing studded with diamonds, going on picnics in three mile high tents made of pure pearl.  She was 100% like her name, Benazir means incomparable, matchless or unique, she was all of those in her brains, beauty, wealth and power and putting up with the fake cases against her trumped up by those who were kings of corruption themselves! Even on her last day on earth she was like a rose, so I have chosen the name Rose Face for her as a personal tribute to this remarkable human being.

Killing a person is like killing the entire human race so beware her murderers, all of whom will be bitten by scorpions, venomous reptiles day in day out God willing. She was the hope of her countrymen and women. But we will achieve all the things she has mentioned in her last message to her party workers and people at large and that would be a practical tribute to her.
